Ok, today I do not have a Bible verse, but this post is inspired by the word I heard a few weeks back in church. So the sermon was really about how we should fix our eyes on God, give Him thanks for everything that He does for us, even when things do not go according to our plans. This actually confuses me, because it sounds like we are doing God a favor by thanking Him. So there's this question that has been on my mind 'Is worshiping God not for our benefit? I took the opportunity to reflect on my life and sort of think of different ways through which worshipping God has been therapeutic for me.
Anger Management; even though i always forget to do this, I find that worshipping God actually helps quell my anger, so what i do when I'm upset, not all the time, most times, is just plug in my ear buds and just focus on God, singing out loud and sort of dwelling in Him, before I know it, I am totally lost in Him that i forget why I am angry in the moment, this helps me deal with whatever has angered me with a clear mind once I'm calm, this has helped me so many times and has saved me from so many irrational decisions.
Anti-depressant; its funny how when I'm depressed or anything like that, listening to music, singing out the words helps me find peace, it helps me kick out the voice of the devil and embrace God's voice, what does God say about me, it reminds me that God is so much more powerful than everything. ask Solomon, he'll tell you, his soul was tormented until worship came in
Ideas; I actually used to think i was possessed because of this one, most of my bright ideas come when i am worshipping, i used to think it was a distraction, but i actually just realised that worshipping God opens me up to Him and He can just sort of put ideas in my head, I'm thinking this is the Holy Spirit, but, well, I believe in the trinity, so God is three in one.
Direction; when i need direction I find the answers in worship, this is truly a beautiful experience. I am not alone the children of Israel also knew this, wasn't it in worship that the walls of Jericho fell?
So please tell me this, who benefits more? You a mere human being who has no power but through God almighty or God who single handedly placed every single thing on the universe where it is. I am not saying that God does not desire our worship, i am saying that we need to understand that we are not doing this for God, we are doing it for ourselves. God desires an intimate relationship with us, and worship is one of the avenues through which we communicate with him. David, the greatest worshipper of all time, the one who God called a man after His heart knew this. What about you? is there anything that worshipping does for you? I and other people would really like to know. Please leave your comments below.
